Well it is that time of year. End of Wimbledon, What to do? I know a car rally. The Bumbling Wasps are back on the road. This time it is a tiny little rally - the Crumball Rally - the Italian Job. A “crash” of the Gumball Rally and the 1969 film starring Michael Caine - “The Italian Job”. This rally sees the wasps driving from Dover to Nice …but via the Swiss Alps and Torino…scenes in the famous 1969 film. To spice up the story, the car cannot cost more than £320. This year we are fundraising for Crisis, the charity working with single homeless. The target is £1,000 - a £1 for every mile covered.

Mongol rally update 7th March

We had a team meeting yesterday and we have decided to re-name the team “Flight of the Bumbling Wasps”, a good team name we think. This means that we can come up with all kinds of images, pictures, sounds and pranks to help us on the way. We are also considering two possible routes: From Turkey through Georgia into Russia, then into Kasakhstan, back out through Russia (Omsk) across to Lake Bailkal and “dropping” into Mongolia. Bit worried about how well a Daewoo Kalos will fare in the Kasakhstan desert. The other possible route is from Turkey, through Iran, through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, a bit of Kaskhstan and into Mongolia. The roads are better, but a little bit worried about the politics! Well we now have our car…we are the proud owners of a 54 plate Daewoo Kalos that is a category D insurance write off - a bit of a dent in the nearside wing, but mechanically sound. We are on our way!

Mongol Rally….are we mad?

Wasp Financial Management is entered a team into the Mongol Rally ..10,000 miles in a Daewoo Kalos a car with less than a 1.2litre engine. This journey will take us across some of the most difficult terrian on our planet. We are totally unprepered for this journey, know nothing about cars…no mechanical knowledge at all. The point of the journey? Well the world has become a little too neurotic for our liking, and this (hopefully) proves that we can survive without toooo much planning. The other point is to raise money….for charities in Mongolia and in the UK. More details will be posted shortly, and please we need your sponsorship to make this “risk” worthwhile.
